Danville is located in Southside Virginia
The Dan River Region, which encompasses
the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County, Virginia, is a region brimming
with natural beauty, history and the friendliest people you will find anywhere.
Whether you are interested in a place in the country, new construction, stately
historic homes, townhouses, or downtown condo living, there is a home for you.
Located in south-central Virginia on the Virginia-North Carolina border,
the Region enjoys all four seasons, no traffic issues and is a great place to
raise a family or to retire. For travelers, we are located a short distance from
Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Additionally, the Amtrak train stops in
Danville taking passengers to New York City, Washington, Atlanta, Philadelphia,
Baltimore, and Charlotte, NC .
The area offers recreation galore including a scenic River Walk for walking
and biking, the State’s premiere mountain bike trails, and many beautiful parks
for picnicking. For the sports enthusiasts, there is something for everyone:
golf, tennis, fishing, hunting, the Danville Braves minor league baseball,
racing from NASCAR to world-class road racing at Virginia International Raceway.
For Museum
lovers and history buffs, there is the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History,
located in the Sutherlin Mansion located on Millionaires Row. This was the final
stop for Confederate President Jefferson Davis; thus Danville is known as the
“Last Capital of the Confederacy.” Other area museums include the American
Armoured Foundation Tank Museum with the largest collection of military
memorabilia in the world, and the Danville Science Center, a satellite of the
Science Museum of Virginia.
The Region is also home to Averett
University, a liberal arts university which offers concerts, lectures and
sporting events throughout the year, as well as Danville Community College,
offering learning opportunities for adults of all ages.
