Sallie Abreu is a native of
Danville, being born, raised and educated here. After graduating from G.W.H.S.,
Sallie majored in Economics / Business
and
earned a B.A. from Queens College in Charlotte, where she also worked for two
years as a college admissions counselor. From there, Sallie went on to earn an
M.B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta, with a concentration in Marketing.
After graduation and a year of working in Florida, Sallie and her husband, Luis,
chose to live in Danville to raise a family, work and enjoy their friends and
community.
After restoring a charming Victorian home
in Danville's Historic District, Sallie and Luis, a partner with the law firm
Carter Craig, built a new home where they continue to live and enjoy life in
Danville. Sallie and Luis have two daughters. Sarah is a UVA graduate
working in D.C., and Maria is in her second year at UVA. All members of Sallie's family are active participants in their
community and schools, where each has held several leadership positions.
Sallie ran marathons and taught a
high-energy aerobics class at the YMCA for several years during the 1990's,
Sallie then became a part-time fitness instructor at the Danville Senior
Citizens Center, where she teaches aerobics, weights, and toning. Sallie
enjoys the close friendships that she has made at the Center and through her
many community activities. Sallie's past activities include serving on many G.W.H.S.
Booster Club boards, including soccer, Chatterbox / Cavalier and football
cheerleading, and is a past member of the City Beautiful Committee, the
Wednesday Club and Garden Club of Virginia. Sallie is also a member of First
Presbyterian Church and family, travel, home decorating, yard work and exercise
keep her busy.
